AST runs a rolling recoating program for multi-strap bread pan sets for Goodman Fielder — one of Australia's largest bread producers. Sets are stripped, blasted and recoated in a food-grade PFA system, batch by batch.
Recoating is how production bakeries optimise the life cycle of their bakeware. Pan sets are capital equipment — and instead of spending capital on new tooling, recoating extends the life of the sets you already own, multiple times over, for a fraction of the cost. Each recoat takes the pan back to a freshly prepared substrate and applies a full new coating system — the same system, the same process and the same QA as a new coat. Recoat the tooling without stopping the line
Bread pan sets are expensive, custom-tooled assets that work hard. Release performance falls away gradually as the coating wears, and when it does the bakery sees sticking, product damage and more line stoppages. Replacing pan sets is the capital-expenditure answer — recoating extends the life of tooling the bakery already owns, for a fraction of that cost. The question for this producer was never whether to recoat — it was how to recoat without taking a production line out of service, because the pans have to keep baking while their replacements are away being processed.

A rolling program, batched by pan-set group
AST runs this as a rolling program rather than one large job. Pan sets are grouped and processed in batches so the bakery always keeps enough sets in service while a batch is with us. Each batch is inspected on receipt, stripped of its existing coating by thermal burn-off, silica bead blasted back to a clean substrate and the correct anchor profile, then recoated with a food-grade PFA system and cured. Turnaround is 7–10 working days per batch.

Food-grade PFA recoat
A food-grade PFA system — the higher-build member of the Chemours Teflon family — specified for release performance and durability through repeated bake cycles. AST PTFE/PFA bakeware coatings deliver 3,500 to 6,000 bake cycles between recoats, depending on the coating system selected, the bake duty and how the pans are handled in service.
