Coating Services for Mining & Mineral Processing

AST provides chemical-barrier, release and wear coating services for mining and mineral processing equipment — process tanks and vessels, chutes and hoppers, pump and valve components, agitators and shafts. Work is processed at our Campbellfield, Melbourne facility, with door-to-door freight in and out across Australia and New Zealand.

AST is the only licensed industrial fluoropolymer applicator in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, with technical and quality audits by Chemours Global and a lifetime workmanship warranty. AST is trusted by major customers including Rio Tinto and Alcoa.

Coated process vessels and pipework — AST barrier coating for aggressive process duty

Acid and Aggressive Chemical Duty

Leaching, refining and hydrometallurgical circuits attack conventional protective finishes. Halar (ECTFE) and Tefzel (ETFE) thick-film linings give tanks, vessels, pipework and fabricated hardware a genuine barrier against acids, alkalis and oxidisers. Both systems are holiday/spark tested with pass/fail documented on every job.

  • Halar (ECTFE) and Tefzel (ETFE) thick-film barrier linings
  • Tanks, vessels, pipework and fabricated assemblies
  • Holiday/spark tested — results documented
  • Materials Certificate of Conformance with every job

Release and Anti-Build-Up

Where wet, sticky or fine product hangs up on transfer surfaces, PTFE and PFA release systems change the surface rather than the geometry. Chutes, hoppers and liners coated for release run cleaner, and the same non-stick surface makes wash-down and manual cleaning faster.

  • PTFE and PFA non-stick release systems
  • Chutes, hoppers, liners and transfer surfaces
  • Reduced product build-up and adhesion
  • Easier wash-down and cleaning

Wear, Restoration and Hardware

Wire arc metal spray restores worn shafts and cylindrical components to dimension in chrome, stainless steel or nickel, and the sprayed layer can be machined back to the original finish. For fasteners and hardware, Xylan dry-film systems provide corrosion protection and controlled torque in industrial service.

  • Wire arc metal spray — dimensional restoration and wear
  • Chrome, stainless steel and nickel, machinable to finish
  • Xylan dry-film coatings for fasteners and hardware
  • New coating and refurbishment of existing assets

AST is the only licensed industrial fluoropolymer applicator in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, with technical and quality audits by Chemours Global. AST also provides a lifetime workmanship warranty.

Equipment We Coat

From fasteners to full vessels

Mining and mineral processing work spans two extremes — small hardware in large quantities, and single large fabrications that cannot be replaced quickly. AST handles both in-house, on new equipment and on refurbishment of assets already in service.

Typical components

  • Tanks and process vessels — internal barrier linings for acid and aggressive chemical duty
  • Chutes and hoppers — release coatings where product build-up is the problem
  • Pump and valve components — bodies, internals and associated fittings
  • Agitators and shafts — barrier protection, release, or metal spray restoration
  • Fasteners and hardwareXylan dry-film coatings for corrosion protection and controlled torque
  • Instrumentation and thermowells — protection of wetted sensing hardware

Capacity, freight and turnaround

  • Largest technical coating equipment in Australia and New Zealand — ovens 7 m × 3 m × 3 m
  • Parts up to approximately 8 m accommodated by diagonal loading
  • Door-to-door freight in and out across Australia and New Zealand
  • Coating turnaround typically 7–10 working days from receipt of the part
  • Materials Certificate of Conformance and QA records with every job
  • Lifetime workmanship warranty

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you line mineral processing equipment for acid service?
Yes. Halar (ECTFE) and Tefzel (ETFE) thick-film barrier linings are the systems AST applies for acid and aggressive chemical duty on tanks, vessels, pipework and fabricated process hardware. Both systems are holiday/spark tested as standard, with pass/fail results documented and issued with the job alongside a materials Certificate of Conformance.
How big a part can AST coat?
AST operates the largest technical coating equipment in Australia and New Zealand. The ovens measure 7 m deep by 3 m high by 3 m wide, and parts up to approximately 8 m can be accommodated by diagonal loading. Large fabricated items — vessels, tank sections, long shafts and pipe spools — are handled in-house rather than split across subcontractors.
Do you handle freight from remote mine sites?
Yes. AST arranges door-to-door freight in and out across Australia, and to New Zealand, and can quote freight as part of the coating quote or work with the customer nominated carrier. For batched components, consolidating into a single freight run keeps cost per part down.
Can worn shafts and rotating components be restored?
Yes. Wire arc metal spray rebuilds worn shafts, journals and cylindrical components in chrome, stainless steel or nickel, and the sprayed coating can be machined, ground or polished back to the original dimension and surface finish. It is also used as a wear and corrosion surface in its own right, and as an alternative to hard chrome plating. See our metal spray coating services page for the full process detail.
