Teflon Coating Services in Australia & New Zealand — PTFE & PFA
AST provides specialised Teflon coating services for food processing equipment, bakeware, dough handling equipment, rollers, guides and selected industrial components requiring non-stick performance, low-friction behaviour and easier cleaning.
AST's Teflon coating systems are manufactured PFOA-free, classified by the OECD as polymers of low concern, and many are FDA compliant for direct food contact under 21 CFR 177.1550 — giving food manufacturers confidence in both surface performance and regulatory compliance.
AST provides specialised Teflon coating services for food processing equipment, bakeware, dough handling equipment, rollers, guides, transfer hardware and selected industrial components requiring non-stick performance, low-friction behaviour and easier cleaning. In practice, customers may require either PTFE coating or PFA coating depending on the application, but many still search using the broader Teflon term.
PTFE Coating Services — Non-Stick Spray Coating
PTFE coating (polytetrafluoroethylene) is the default fluoropolymer for non-stick behaviour, reduced product adhesion and easier cleaning. PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of any industrial coating (0.04) and is the standard choice for bakeware, bakery equipment, dough handling equipment, rollers, guides and selected light industrial applications where release performance is the main objective. AST applies PTFE as a spray coating across Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
- Bakeware and bakery trays
- Dough hoppers and chutes
- Dough rollers and guides
- Food transfer and conveying equipment
PFA Coating Services — Heavy-Duty PFA Spray Coating
PFA coating (perfluoroalkoxy alkane) is the heavy-duty Teflon fluoropolymer — selected when the application needs stronger chemical resistance, thicker lining-type builds or a more robust spray coating than PTFE alone provides. PFA Teflon coating is the premium choice for process equipment, food contact vessels and components where regulatory or hygiene requirements demand the highest-performance fluoropolymer. AST applies PFA spray coating up to 500 µm DFT.
- Stronger chemical resistance than PTFE
- Thicker, lining-type builds up to 500 µm
- Process equipment, vessels and food contact components
- Premium FDA-grade Teflon for demanding service
Typical Teflon Coating Applications
AST's Teflon coating services are especially relevant where sticking, product carryover, difficult cleaning or low-friction surface behaviour create operational cost or production problems. Both PTFE and PFA systems are available depending on the specific application requirements.
- Bakeware, trays and bakery equipment
- Dairy and food processing equipment
- Rollers, guides and OEM components
- Food transfer hardware and selected engineering components

What AST Teflon coats
Teflon coating earns its place wherever sticking, product carryover, difficult cleaning or friction create a real production cost. AST applies PTFE and PFA across food, dairy, engineering and process work — new components and the refurbishment of existing equipment alike.
Bakeware & bakery equipment
Loaf pans, baking trays, lids and straps — new coating and recoating.
Dough hoppers & chutes
Release surfaces that keep dough moving and cut cleaning downtime.
Rollers & guides
Low-friction coatings for transfer rollers, guides and forming hardware.
Dairy & food processing
Cheese, dairy and food-contact components needing easy-clean surfaces.
Pump & process internals
Impellers, housings and heat-exchanger hardware in process duty.
Valves & OEM components
Gate, ball and butterfly bodies and engineered OEM parts.
Choosing between PTFE and PFA
Both are Teflon fluoropolymers and both deliver non-stick release. The choice comes down to film thickness, chemical duty and how hard the surface has to work. For a full decision tree across the wider fluoropolymer family, see our PTFE vs PFA vs ETFE vs ECTFE comparison.
| Attribute | PTFE coating | PFA coating |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Non-stick release — bakeware, dough handling, rollers | Chemical resistance + thicker barrier — process equipment, vessels |
| Coefficient of friction | 0.04 — the lowest of any industrial coating | Low, marginally above PTFE |
| Typical film thickness (DFT) | 25–35 µm | Up to 500 µm |
| Continuous service temperature | Up to 260 °C | Up to 260 °C |
| Film character | Thin-film release | Tougher, thicker, melt-processable |
| Food contact | Food-safe; many FDA-compliant | Premium FDA-grade |
How AST applies Teflon coatings
Every job follows the same controlled sequence, documented from receipt to dispatch:
- 1Strip & inspect. Existing coating removed and the part inspected on arrival.
- 2Silica bead blast. A clean, substrate-preserving surface key for adhesion.
- 3Degrease & mask. Sealing faces, bores and threads masked to protect tolerances.
- 4Prime. Bonded fluoropolymer primer for long-term adhesion.
- 5Topcoat. PTFE or PFA sprayed to the target film thickness.
- 6Cure & QA. Oven-cured to manufacturer peak metal temperature; DFT verified and recorded.
Recoat instead of replace
Bakeware and tooling run many thousands of bake cycles before release performance falls off. When it does, recoating restores the original non-stick surface at a fraction of the cost of new tooling — usually on a 7–10 working day turnaround from receipt, against the weeks of lead time an overseas replacement carries. AST recoats trays, pans, rollers and process components on the same licensed PTFE and PFA systems used for new work.
